According to the number published by the Central Instutute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture the hop acreage in the Czech Republic is estimated to be 4 945 ha in 2017. This is an increase of 170 ha. The largest increase (+131 ha) is again seen with the Saaz variety with total acreage 4321 ha, followed by Sladek (+24 ha) with total acreage 291 ha and Kazbek (+12 ha) with total acreage 34 ha. The official final numbers will be available in the end of August.
From autumn of 2012 until spring 2017 the Czech hop growers planted 1 700 ha achieving a total net increase in acreage of 626 ha. This means that 34 % of the current Czech hop acreage is younger than 5 years.
The Embassy of the Czech Republic in collaboration with Bohemia Hop organized a special evening with Beer & Hop Experts, featured Josef Patzak, managing director of the Hop Research Insitute; Zdenek Rosa, chairman of Chmelarstvi and Bohemia Hop and Jonathan Reeves, head brewer of Port City Brewery. Over 100 beer lovers gathered at the Embassy to enjoy beers made from Czech hops, paired with delicious Czech cuisine prepared by Embassy Chef Zdenek Pecka.
Experts related to both craft breweries and brewing concerns appreciated an opportunity to acquier knowledge of Czech hops, to hear an experience about brewing Bohemian-style lagers from a local brewery using Czech hops and to sniff original Czech hop varieties.

Bohemia Hop traditionally participated in Craft Brewers Conference (CBC) and BrewExpo America 2017 that were held in Washington, D.C., USA. Over 12.000 people and nearly 900 exhibitors participated in CBC and BrewExpo America during 3 days of the conference and trade show. We welcomed many attenders at our booth and also hosted Mr. Tomas Hart from the Embassy of the Czech Republic, Petr Jezek and Karolina Bartosova from the Ministry of Agriculture in The Czech Republic who came to support our team. Hereby, we would like to thank all participants and organizers for the great show.

Bohemia Hop in cooperation with the Hop Research Institute in Zatec organized a gathering and educational session focused on the application of Czech hops in the brewing industry that took place on 29th March 2017. It was great opportunity to introduce two newly registered Czech hop varieties. This traditional event is an opportunity for brewers and other experts related to the brewing industry to meet, mingle and mutually share their experiences. This year, over 100 participants gathered at the Hop Research Institute to learn about the current trends in the hop and brewing industries and to taste and evaluate beers brewed from Czech hop varieties in the experimental brewery at the Hop Research Institute.
Sapporo Breweries, BOHEMIA HOP and CHMELAŘSTVÍ, družstvo Žatec held a regular meeting with Czech hop supplieres from the Saaz region taht took place on 24th February 2017. Mr. Koie from Sapporo Breweries delivered an actual market information and provided further traning of CCFS program for their suppliers.
Main topics of the meeting were focused on a hop treatmen and CCFS news.
Mr. Koie appreciated a good cooperation and growers efforts to work on CCFS program. Zemědělská společnost Blšany was awarded as the best grower and supplier of hops in 2016.
