Bohemia Hop together with Chmelarstvi, cooperative Zatec organized for Czech growers a trip to Japan. The growers had a chance to get to know the traditionally biggest market of Saaz hops around the world.
The growers had an opportunity to visit warehouses of Kirin Brewery in Yokohama and Suntory Brewery in Kjoto, Japanese hop processsing line and hop gardens of Kirin Brewery. Moreover, the growers visited two famrs in Iwate region located in the north of Japan.
The growers were warmly welcomed. They could find out a respectability of Saaz hops in Japan.
On Monday June 18th 2018, Mr. Takashima, president of the Sapporo Brewery, visited Bohemia Hop. Mr. Takashima inspected the processing line and storage facilities of Chmelarstvi, cooperative Zatec. Besides that, Mr. Takashima took a look at the vegetation of Saaz hops in some parts of Saaz region. After all, the President appreciated an opportunity to visit the Hop Museum in Saaz.
Within the last day of the CBC and Brew Expo America 2018 in Nashville, an official hospitality of CBC called „Brewing Like Czechs Do“ took place. This event was sponsored and organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in collaboration with Bohemia Hop. Apart from Bohemia Hop, other Czech companies related with the beer industry participated in this gathering.
Many of Czech brewing legends and professionals from the beer industry supported significantly this event by their presence - Mr. Berka (Pilsner Urquell), Mr. Brož and Mr. Dvořák (both from Budvar), Mr. Chramosil (U fleků; U supa), Mr. Kočka (gipsy brewery Nomád). Moreover, visitors could discuss their issues with representatives of the Hop Growers Union of the Czech Republic and the Hop Research Institute who also assisted in the preparations.
The visitors had a great opportunity to learn more about raw materials and brewing equipment of Czech origin. They could also see and appreciate the aroma within samples of original Czech hops varieties prepared in collaboration with a procurement department of Chmelařství. Taking into consideartion an increasing interest in Bohemia-style lagers, the motto was:“SAAZ – the first choice for Bohemian-style Pilsner“. For this occasion, there were Pilsener-style beers on tap brewed and supplied by the Live Oak and Utepils breweries using only original Czech raw materials including Czech hops (Saaz, Sladek, Kazbek).
It was a pleasure to welcome many significant persons among guests – Charlie Papazian, the founder and former director of BA, Stan Hironymus, American journalist and author of many books (e.g. „For the Love of Hops“) and Hiroyuki Fujirawa, the president of the Japan Beer Journalists Association.

The 3rd Craft Beer China Conference & Exhibition took place from May 16 to May 18, 2018 at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. Organizers of the exhibition are Nürnberg Messe in cooperation with Beijing Beer Link Cultural Development Co., Ltd. and China Light Industry Machinery Association. The total number of exhibitors reached 180 from 12 coutries this year and the exhibition area was 10.000 sqm that is double area in comparison to 2017 (2017 - 100 exhibitors from 14 countries).
Bohemia Hop a.s. was the only one representative of the Czech republic.
According to accessible sources by organizers, more than 9.000 attendees visited the exhibition. They could attend the presentation during the exhibition where one of the presentation was Czech republic - Home of Saaz hop - quality and certification systems, by Bohemia Hop.
Every two years, the World Beer Cup competition and its award ceremony are held in pursuance of the Craft Brewers Conference and Brew Expo America show. This year, 2.628 breweries from 69 countries competed for the awards.
Totally 8.580 entries were registered in 101 beer style categories. A highly qualified panel of 306 beer judges from 34 countries (83 U.S. judges) had evaluated and honored beers in particular categories.
Among competing breweries, even 6 Czech breweries with 16 beer samples strived for the awards. Some of Czech brewing legends and professionals from the beer industry were embodied in the panel of judges – Mr. Berka, Mr. Brož and Mr. Dvořák represented Czech Industrial breweries, Mr. Chramosil, Mr. Kočka, Mr. Šuráň and Mr. Janík represented Czech craft breweries. Some of these legends even supported significantly by their presences another event called „Brewing Like Czechs Do“ organized and sponsored by the Czech Embassy in collaboration with the Bohemia Hop with the help of Hop Growers Union of the Czech Republic and Hop research institute.
The CBC closing ceremony and World Beer Cup Award 2018 ceremony took place in the Music City Centre in Nashville on May 3. Before honoring top three beers in particular categories with bronze, silver and gold awards, BA held the Closing Night Beer-Paired Dinner.
Bohemia Hop together with representatives of the Czech Embassy, Hop Research Institute Hop Growers Union of the Czech Republic enjoyed this astonishing nigth. Unfortunally , Czech breweries have achieved no award.
The Craft Brewers Conference and Brew Expo America 2018 took place from April 30 to May 3 2018. In its 35 year, It was the first time CBC was held in Nashville, TN, USA. This event is one of the biggest and most popular social and commercial events being related with the beer industry.
According to highlights of 35th CBC published by the BA, almost 15.000 attendees and 726 exhibitors from all over the world participated in this event. More then 200 speakers performed their presentations at the seminars of the Conference.
Bohemia Hop had traditionally the booth at the show. Immense number of professionals from the beer industry visited us to learn more about Czech Hop varieties and to get to know more information about the Czech beer industry as a whole. Apart from the show, Bohemia Hop organized in collaboration with the Czech Embassy in Washington D.C. an official sponsored hospitatlity called „Brewing Like Czechs Do“. The beers made by the LiveOak and Utepils breweries using only Czech original hop varieties – SAAZ, SLADEK and KAZBEK were offered during this event that took place on May 3 in a corridor of the City Music Center before the World Beer Cup 2018 Award ceremony.
