The Bohemian Style lager was the topic of the presentation „Wanna Brew True Pilsner?“ that became the most favourite and visited presentation of the show. The hall with capacity of almost 1.400 chairs was crowded and it was impossible to find a free chair. Moreover, many participants had to stay in front of the doors of the hall. The legendary Czech brewer Vaclav Berka, emeritus Head Brewer of Pilsner Urquell, and Zdenek Rosa, chairman of Bohemia Hop and Cooperative of Czech hop Growers, were the key speakers. Many feedbacks after the presentation showed the phenomenal success. The speakers were allowed to respond to participants even 40 minutes after their presentations. Moreover, many attendees came subsequent days to our booth to thank the speakers.
The show took place in Minneapolis, MN the first week in May. A Czech Dark Lager brewed with Kazbek hops in Bent Paddle Brewery was the official beer of this year conference - CBC 2022 Commemorative Beer. Bohemia Hop represented by Zdenek Rosa, Vladimir Seretka, Tomas Roubik and Jan Podsednik had traditionally own booth at the side exhibition. The big number of visitors of our booth showed increasing demand for original Czech hops.
Bohemia Hop as a leading Czech hop supplier participated in the Czech Brewing Business Mission organized by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in the Hague in cooperation with the CzechTrade agency. During the two-day mission, we visited Brouwerij Het IJ and Brouwerij De Prael in Amsterdam, and Stadshaven Brewery in Rotterdam, where the original warehouse for fruit was redeveloped into a new Craft brewery with a capacity of 20.000 hl. The second day of the mission was designated for B2B dealings, thanks to we got in touch with representatives of local breweries or distributors of raw materials on the Dutch market. Czech hops got the top priority when Jan-Phillip Hopf, Owner of Butcher´s Tears Brewery and Organiser of Czech Pivo Fest, was discoursing on "Renaissance of Lager Beer in the Netherlands, and also thanks to served Czech lager during the event, which we arranged together with the organizers. According to the report from The Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture (CISTA/UKZUZ) from December 2021, the total hop production reached 8 306 tons in the Czech Republic in 2021. This is the highest production since 1996, but 25 years ago the hop acreage was 9 355 ha compare to 4 971 ha in 2021.
The total hop production in the Saaz hop region was 6 358 tons, which is 76,5 % out of the total production. In the Auscha hop region the production was 998 tons, which is 12,0 % out of the total hop production and in the Tirschitz hop region the production reached 950 tons (11,5 % out of the total production).
