The hop harvest has begun this week in the Žatec region. The opening of the hop harvest in Lenešice near Louny was personally attended today by the Minister of Agriculture, Marek Výborný.
Today, the Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture published the final figures for this year’s harvested areas.
The total harvested area amounts to 4,812 hectares, of which 3,689 hectares are planted with the Saaz variety.

July in the Saaz region was slightly below average in terms of temperature. The average temperature was 0.2 °C lower compared to the longterm average and 1.7 °C cooler than last year. Tropical days occurred only in the first week, with the highest temperature of the month recorded on 2 July at 35.6 °C. Temperatures above 30 °C were reached only once more, on 20 July. Rainfall was also below average – 24.7 mm less than the longterm norm. The cumulative annual precipitation now stands at 82% of the usual level. Rainfall significant for growers was recorded particularly in the Saaz area on 21 July and in the last days of the month.
The Hop Trail, curated for the Expo by Martin Štross and created under the leadership of the Hop Growers Association of the Czech Republic, with the support and cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Tokyo, CHMELAŘSTVÍ, cooperative Žatec and Bohemia Hop, a.s., has been part of the Czech pavilion since the first day of the Expo.
The Ministry of Agriculture and the Czech Embassy in Tokyo organized a lecture day on Czech beer in the Czech pavilion. One hundred Japanese brewers, including representatives of all major Japanese breweries, had the opportunity to listen to presentations on Czech hop growing, hop research, Czech malt and, of course, Czech beer.

We spent an inspiring afternoon and evening with them at Bohemia Hop – exploring the latest hop industry updates, experiencing the aromas of Czech hop varieties, and visiting the Hop Museum. 🍺 The day wrapped up at Pioneer Brewery, where owner and brewmaster Michal Havrda hosted our guests late into the evening. The Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture (CISTA/UKZUZ) updated data on acreage of hop varieties in the Czech Republic as of April 30, 2025. As of this date, the hop harvest area is registered at 4,815.9 hectares, representing a year-on-year decrease of 0.6 % (compared to August 20, 2024, when it was 4,844.8 hectares). Compared to the last year, the area of hop fields in the Saaz hop-growing region decreased by 21.6 hectares (-0,58 %). The area of the fine aroma Saaz hops decreased by 25.6 hectares (i.e. by 0.64%) to the current 3954.2 hectares.
