From a temperature perspective, August was slightly below average – the mean temperature was 0.3 °C lower than the long-term average. Tropical temperatures occurred at the beginning of the second decade of the month, with the highest temperature of 35.6 °C recorded on August 15. In total, there were 5 tropical days in August, one more than in July.

The hop harvest has begun this week in the Žatec region. The opening of the hop harvest in Lenešice near Louny was personally attended today by the Minister of Agriculture, Marek Výborný.
Today, the Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture published the final figures for this year’s harvested areas.
The total harvested area amounts to 4,812 hectares, of which 3,689 hectares are planted with the Saaz variety.

July in the Saaz region was slightly below average in terms of temperature. The average temperature was 0.2 °C lower compared to the longterm average and 1.7 °C cooler than last year. Tropical days occurred only in the first week, with the highest temperature of the month recorded on 2 July at 35.6 °C. Temperatures above 30 °C were reached only once more, on 20 July. Rainfall was also below average – 24.7 mm less than the longterm norm. The cumulative annual precipitation now stands at 82% of the usual level. Rainfall significant for growers was recorded particularly in the Saaz area on 21 July and in the last days of the month.
